Early in a Lane Change On Demand maneuver, you can cancel it by moving the turn signal stalk away from the direction of the lane change. When you do this, your vehicle will return to its original lane and the Super Cruise symbol will remain green. At any time during the maneuver, you can cancel Lane Change On Demand by manually steering. The Super Cruise symbol will turn blue when you do this and the maneuver will be canceled. Once your vehicle is centered in the lane, the Super Cruise symbol will transition back to green.

Super Cruise technology works with Adaptive Cruise Control† which can control acceleration and braking while it is enabled and operating to maintain a driver-selected following gap time. Super Cruise™ functions with GMC Connected Services† and uses real-time precise positioning cameras, sensors and LiDAR map data to help detect curves, helping to make long drives and commutes more enjoyable. Super Cruise will not brake the vehicle when approaching an intersection that is controlled by a traffic light or stop sign. Super Cruise will not detect vehicles crossing the road ahead, including at intersections, and will not automatically steer or brake to prevent a collision. These components help ensure the driver is paying attention. •    The vehicle is traveling faster than 137 km/h (85 mph). The maximum Super Cruise speed in curves will vary based on how sharp the curve is. •    The DAS system detects that the driver is not looking at the road. Still, we would want the Lane Change on Demand ability as it completes the package and experience. It can't predict other drivers' actions; it just reacts to them.

As someone who still appreciates manual shifting, I hope that day doesn’t come too soon. Super Cruise launched in 2017 as the industry’s first true hands-free ADAS on the market. GM has incrementally expanded its Super Cruise network, most recently to 400,000 miles (640,000 kilometers), to include major Canadian, U.S. and state highways. Today’s expansion adds minor highways that typically connect smaller cities and townships. •    The Super Cruise system has determined that the vehicle is not centered in the lane lines.

Currently, GM is expanding Super Cruise usability from around 200,000 miles to 400,000 miles of roadways in the US and Canada, and there are no signs things will slow down from there. When you buy the vehicle, the sensors are fixed, but GM does upgrade the software via over-the-air updates and plans to keep extending the number of roads Super Cruise works with. If or when it'll be suitable for city streets is anybody's guess.

Drivers can also let Super Cruise do the work of changing lanes when traveling on a compatible road. The Super Cruise system is a highly sophisticated system and should be serviced by technicians who have proper training, tools and safety instructions. The technicians at your authorized GMC dealer understand the intricacies of the Super Cruise feature and are qualified to help you with servicing your vehicle. In an exclusive report, CarBuzz reveals Toyota's extensive EV plans, including new SUVs, sedans, performance models and pickups. If Super Cruise is included on a trim level, it's a no-brainer. As an option, it's something we would think about before committing.
